[Sehefac] Upcoming Public Programs (+ Extra Credit Opportunities!)

Hi all,
Please see a weeklong set of events to add to your calendar! For those of
you heading into Week 10 of the quarter, perhaps you can offer these as
extra credit opportunities for students. All of the programs are community
and student based efforts, in collaboration with A People's History of the
I.E. <http://peopleshistoryie.org> and other organizations. *Please
circulate widely. Fliers attached.*
--*Tues., June 3, 12-3, outside Rivera Library: "Our Communities, Our
Stories, Our Lives"* Student Research symposium, under the arches of Rivera
Library. Student posters, presentations, & interactive activities featuring
regional histories of displacement, resistance, and mobilizing for
queer/trans rights, among others.
*--Thurs., June 5, 5pm, @ UCR Arts Culver Screening Room, 3834 Main Street.
*"*To Rise Above Ruins: Archives, Industry, and the American Century
<https://ucrarts.ucr.edu/events/to-rise-above-ruins/>*," discussion of
archives and artwork related to empire and environmental impacts of
military-industrial development in the Inland Empire and Puerto Rico--two
sites connected through the work of photographer Tamara Cedré. Free.
Reservations recommended but not required. *Generously co-sponsored by
UCR's Center for Ideas & Society, History Dept., Anthropology Dept., &
Society, Environment, & Health Equity. *

Street, "Unearthing Black Histories Through Photography

Farms (San Bernardino) & Bethesda African Cemetery Coalition
(Maryland)"-- *conversation
about efforts to preserve Black community histories and sites in San
Bernardino and Bethesda, Maryland. Explores ways photography can support
community preservation in the face of industrial development, displacement,
and environmental degradation.
