*Graduate Student Internship (Spring 2025)

ANSIRH is seeking a graduate student in California to work closely with
faculty and staff on a short-term ArcGIS project to collect, visualize, and
map data that will further our understanding of abortion care in
California. This project seeks to shed light on the extent to which the
demand for abortion care in California is being met, including identifying
where the healthcare gaps may exist, and where additional resources may
serve to improve abortion access.

The intern will be responsible for building on ANSIRH’s current database of
publicly advertised abortion-providing facilities to collect and integrate
data on other California abortion facilities (e.g. UC/CSU campuses,
Kaiser), Crisis Pregnancy Centers, and hospitals. The intern will also be
responsible for capturing community-level characteristics such as the
population distribution of pregnancy-capable people and social determinants
of health data. The intern will be responsible for identifying, downloading
and managing data, as well as making personal contact (phone/email) to
access potential data sources. The intern will integrate these data in an
ArcGIS database, creating maps to illustrate the geographic distribution of
data, as well as documenting their methodology for this process. While the
intern is expected to work on most tasks independently, the intern will
work within a multi-disciplinary team at ANSIRH. This position is embedded
in a robust mentorship structure with frequent collaboration with senior
scholars at UCSF. For this California-focused project, we are seeking an
intern based in California, although the work can be done remotely. ANSIRH
values a diverse workforce and strongly encourages applications from
candidates who are people of color or are otherwise historically excluded
in abortion research.

*About ANSIRH*

Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH)
<https://www.ansirh.org/> is a collaborative research group at the
University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and a program of the Bixby
Center for Global Reproductive Health <https://bixbycenter.ucsf.edu/>, a
key research entity of the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG)

lived realities of people who have experienced system oppression.

At ANSIRH, we conduct innovative, rigorous, multidisciplinary research on
complex issues related to people’s sexual and reproductive lives. Our work
is informed by an understanding of the role that structural inequities play
in shaping health. We believe in the importance of research in advancing

resources, support, and freedom to achieve reproductive wellbeing.
