*Course Description:*
This course provides a pathway into theory, practice, and praxis of
hearing, detecting, reading, translating, engaging, crafting, writing,
sharing, and communicating in narrative while developing an understanding
of cultural bearings and beliefs and respect for multiple perspectives and
contradictory voice in the stories of illness in patient-centered care.
Special focus in working within marginalized community and culture,
cultural competence, and empowering caregivers and patients with narrative
ethics, empathy, engagement, and ensuing narrative practice. Special
segment in suicide prevention.
Course is flexible format, seminar and workshop. Seven brief lessons
inclusive of writing exercises, story practice, readings, and discussions
as applicable in clinical practice. Three sessions in fieldwork practice of
narrative medicine.
*Course Objectives:*
By the end of the course, students will be able to: Respect multiple
perspectives while listening, hearing, translating and incorporating
simultaneous voices. To negotiate contradictions, recognize and engage with
emotional distancing and students will develop professional empathy in the
practice of health care.

(2) Develop means of crafting narrative through multiple voices
(3) Develop professionalization and empathetic means
(4) Recognize and respect cultural informations
(5) Confidently pursue personal habits in crafting personal narrative for
self-care
(6) Confidently develop professional narratives in patient-centered care
(7) Recognize writing as a method of healing
