[Research] National Science Foundation (NSF) -New Research Security Training Requirement - Effective October 10, 2025

administrators in your department who may find it noteworthy ~~*

*Effective with proposals due and/or submitted on or after October 10,
2025, the* *National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Security Requirement
requires that*:

research security training certifications from proposers and individuals
identified as senior/key personnel by the proposer*; and*

research security training for anyone identified as senior/key personnel in
the proposal. This training is required to be completed within 12 months
prior to proposal submission*. *

Security Policies for the NSF research security requirements for the full
notification.)

Accordingly, to facilitate compliance with this new requirement, UC has
launched a comprehensive Research Security eLearning course in the UC
Learning Center. This eLearning course is as outlined below and located at:

Course Description: Research Security at the University of California

Duration: The eLearning course will take approximately 30-40 minutes to
complete.

Topics include:

·         An overview of Research Security

·         Case studies

·         International collaboration

·         Disclosure

·         Information and data security

·         Elicitation

·         Talent recruitment programs and Malign Foreign Talent Recruitment
Programs

·         International travel



*NOTE:  Principal Investigator’s need to include a copy of the LMS Training
certification(s) for themselves and key/senior personnel, identified in the
proposal, in their Kuali proposal package that is submitted to Sponsored
Programs Administration (SPA) for review and endorsement of the proposal.
Principal Investigator’s and senior/key personnel are highly encouraged to
complete the eLearning course as soon as possible as SPA will not be able
to submit a proposal to NSF without evidence that the research security
training requirements have been met.*
