Leslie Van Houten, Esq. and Stephanie Leider, Esq. Senior Councils from OP Office of General Council will be visiting UCR on Wednesday, October 19, 2011.  They will be providing their expertise on Family Medical Leave, managing Extended Leaves, the Interactive Process and Reasonable Accommodation.  This critical information will be presented in two three hour presentations.  The presentations are interactive utilizing hypothetical cases to illustrate the problem solving process.  Presentation descriptions are as follows:



"Managing Family and Medical Leaves at UC"

Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. - Pentland Hills, Bear Cave B107

*       Outline the University's obligations with regard to Family and Medical Leaves

*       Review essential Notices, Certifications, and other FML forms

*       Identify best practices for administering FML Leaves and highlight helpful tools available

*       Use entertaining hypotheticals to provide practical solutions for typical FML challenges, such as:

o   Managing intermittent and reduced schedule FML leaves

o   Determining how much FML exempt employees may take and how to track their leaves

o   Overcoming employees' resistance to having their leaves (or intermittent time off) designated as FML

o   Addressing problems with Certifications provided by Health Care Providers

o    Handling situations where an employee's FML leave runs concurrently with other leaves, such as pregnancy disability leave or workers' compensation leave

*       Provide time for Q&A

3. Type in "managing" in the search field and click Go

4. Click on the:  Extended Leaves and Disability, click on: "Managing Family and Medical Leave at UC" title and select Register

5. Review the activity details and select Submit to complete your registration
