Re: Annual Compensatory Time Off (CTO) Election for Represented Non-Exempt Employees in the CX, HX, RX, TX and SX Units

If your department offers Compensatory Time Off (CTO) for overtime hours worked, employees in the bargaining units listed above in your department should be offered an opportunity during the month of June to elect CTO for 2011-12. Employees who made an election for CTO during the last election period are still required to complete a new election form.

HX and SX:
The contracts currently in place for the HX and SX bargaining units contain the following provision with respect to CTO:
"Unless the employee and the University agree otherwise, overtime will be paid. An employee may, upon hire and thereafter during the month of June, file a written indication of preference for either compensatory time off or pay with her/his immediate supervisor. The University shall grant the preference indicated."
For these groups, unless an employee makes an election for compensatory time off during June 2011, July earnings should reflect cash payments for overtime.

RX and TX:
The contracts currently in place for the RX and TX bargaining units contain the following provision with respect to CTO:
"Unless the employee and the University agree otherwise, overtime will be paid. An employee may, upon hire and thereafter during the month of June, file a written indication of preference for either compensatory time off or pay with her/his immediate supervisor. The University shall grant the preference indicated. If no preference is indicated to the department in the annual June period for changes, the employee's previous election shall continue."

CX:
Although this unit has an expired contract, the University and the union have agreed to extend CTO contract provisions. However, if the employee does not return a new election form the current preference for CTO or pay will be continued.

For your convenience, forms for this purpose are available at: http://humanresources.ucr.edu/publicationsanddocuments.html under Labor Relations, Overtime Compensation.

If you have any questions about the process or requirements described here, please contact Elizabeth Sanchez in the Labor Relations Office, either via email at elizabeth.sanchez at ucr.edu<mailto:elizabeth.sanchez at ucr.edu> or by phone at extension 2-1414.
