Here are the meeting notes from the PPS Users Group meeting held
Wednesday, May 13, 2009 in HMNSS 1500, 10:00 to 11:30.

 

I.              Sara Umali presented the APO Spring Letter, 2008/2009
Year End Schedule and the NIH Salary Cap.   Please find the links below

II.            To help guide and assist individuals responsible for
making faculty summer salary expense allocation decisions, as well as
individuals involved in facilitating the financial transactions
necessary to implement those decisions, the Office of Academic
Personnel, Accounting Services and the Office of Research have prepared
"Guidelines for Charging Faculty Summer Salary to Sponsored Awards
<http://or.ucr.edu/SP/Lifecycle/PostAward/FacultySummerSalary.aspx> ."
These guidelines are intended to help inform the campus community of key
issues and principles that need to be considered prior to charging
faculty summer salary to sponsored awards.   This was presented by Karen
Hruby and Bruce Morgan.      Bruce also presented a Press Release from
the United States Attorney's Office District of Connecticut concerning
false claims.  (See attached)

 

III.           PLEASE NOTE:   If  you were at the PPS Users Group
Meeting last Wednesday, please discard the UCR Summer Salary
Compensation Guidelines presented by Karen Hruby and replace with the
revised UCR Summer Salary Compensation Guidelines attached to this
email.   Karen has revised the schedule of New Summer Salary DOS codes
as follows:

 

1.  Under RESEARCH, for FY ladder-rank appointees, Effort Reporting is
"Yes".

2.  Under OTHER, for everything except Summer Differential, the prior
DOS Code is changed to "BYA".

3.  Per Office of the President, OTHER is defined as anything not
categorized as Administration, Research or Teaching, for example
curriculum or course development.  A footnote to this effect has been
added to the table.

 

Karen did indicate that this document may have additional changes and
asked that if there were any questions, please contact her at  
karen.hruby at ucr.edu

 

ALSO NOTE:  Effective immediately, Academic Personnel has changed the
implementation date for the new Summer DOS codes to be effective for the
entire summer - including June,  a change from the July 1st date
discussed at the meeting.   

                   

IV.          Gabe Nwandu presented the New Cell Phone Policy, which will
take effect July 1, 2009, including instructions on how to calculate the
imputed income/cash allowance as well as how to record the distributions
in PPS.  The link to access this information can be found on the UCR

V.            Roberta Nardico informed the group that beginning July 1,
2009 Work Study Students should be charged against BC28 instead of BC25.
The account number to be used will be account  504120 (Salary Paid From
Non-Permanent Funding Sources -Casual Restricted).   Further information
will be presented at the June PPS Users Group Meeting.

 

VI.          Summer Session reminded PPS Users not to separate faculty
that will be teaching during the summer session.   A listing of these
instructors has been posted on the UCR payroll website under the

The PPS Users Group meeting was well attended with close to 100
attendees.   Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, June 10th,  at HMNSS
1500 from 10:00 to 11:30.
