PPS Users:

 

Please note, we have received the following e-mail from UCOP regarding
false e-mails circulating to international students.   The referenced
link also indicates false e-mails regarding the stimulus package.  

 

Subject: Heads Up - Phony IRS E-Mail

 

Good afternoon all,

 

The attached phony IRS e-mail requesting that the individual complete a
Form W-8BEN and fax it to the telephone number listed in the letter is
currently making its way around universities.  

As you know, the Form W-8 BEN is not sent to the IRS.  Additionally, the
IRS does not send unsolicited e-mail about tax account matters to
individual, business, tax-exempt or other taxpayers.  The IRS web link
regarding phony e-mails is listed below:

Please share this information with individuals on you campus that deal
with foreign students.
