TO:  Departments with July 1 Retirements            

 

RE:  June Earnings

 

Please note that if you have anyone in your department retiring July 1
and separating June 28th and you pay them for a full month they will not
be eligible to receive the special COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment) in
their retirement pay starting August 1. In other words you need to dock
the employee for one day's pay in the month of June.  If this does not
take place then the Retirement Office in Oakland will not pay the
retiree this extra retirement pay and then you will have an upset
retiree that you will have to deal with.
