Hi,
This is primarily for those of you who are on the job market this fall.
If you are interested in doing a practice job talk, let me know so that
I can put a schedule together. I know that at least one of you has
expressed an interest in doing one.
Typically, people do additional practice talks once they have been
invited for an interview (and then often organized by your advisor), but
there is no such requirement here. The main idea is that practice makes
perfect, and putting your first job talk together in a couple of weeks
before you go on an interview is not always ideal - the stress levels
may be a bit high. All of you have probably presented at conferences
before, but the job talk format (mostly in terms of length) is slightly
different, and getting used to giving longer presentations of your work
is also not a bad idea. At any rate, if you are interested, let me know
and, maybe, give me a sense of when you think you would be ready to give
one.
If you have any other job market related things you would like to talk
about, feel free to get in touch. Or, if you feel like another meeting
on Zoom... let me know.
And, once again, if you applications materials you would like feedback
on, go ahead and send them my way.
Best,
i
