Hello all,
The Department of Political Science will be hosting *Professor G. Agustin
Markarian* from Loyola University Chicago as part of our recruitment Jobs
Talk on *Monday, March 30th*. Professor Markarian is an Assistant Professor
of Political Science at Loyola University Chicago. Professor Markarian’s
research primarily uses quantitative methods to study racial and ethnic
inequities in American politics. His ongoing research projects study how
victims’ race and ethnicity shape policy responses to mass shootings, the
impact of police killings on civic participation, and how local election
timing shapes communities of color’s representation in local government.
Professor Markarian will present his paper, “Race, Responsiveness, and
Representation in U.S. Lawmaking.” The talk will take place from *11:30
AM–1:00 PM* in *INTS 1113*. It will also be available on Zoom. Please see
the attached flyer for additional details.
The department will also host a lunch with the speaker at the Stable for
3–4 graduate students at 1:15 PM following the talk. Meeting with visiting
scholars is a valuable opportunity for graduate students, especially those
who are on or preparing for the job market. These conversations can help
you build professional networks, learn about different departments and
hiring expectations, and receive informal advice about navigating the
profession.
*If you would like to attend, please reply to this email by Friday, March
27th.*
We hope to see you there!
Best,
Candice Jenkins
