Dear Professor Merolla,
I am writing to call your attention to six searches being conducted at Yale
this academic year and to request your assistance in identifying candidates
we should consider. For all searches, review of applications will begin on
September 15, 2024 and to guarantee full consideration applications should
be complete by this date.
Specifically, we have posted advertisements for six searches.
*1. Assistant Professor, Normative Theory
(http://apply.interfolio.com/151667 <http://apply.interfolio.com/151667>)*
The Department of Political Science at Yale University is seeking to hire a
faculty member with expertise in Normative Political Theory at the rank of
Assistant Professor, beginning July 1, 2025. A successful applicant should
focus on substantive questions in any area of political theory. The
candidate will be asked to teach courses in political theory commensurate
with their expertise. The initial appointment will be for 5 years. The
teaching expectation is normally 3 courses per academic year.
*2. Assistant Professor, African American Studies and Political Science
(https://apply.interfolio.com/151852 <https://apply.interfolio.com/151852>)*
Yale’s Departments of African American Studies, Political Science,
Psychology, and Sociology invite applicants for multiple positions at the
assistant professor level beginning July 2025. These positions are part of
a cluster hire in African American Studies and the social sciences. The
goal is to deepen empirical scholarship of Black experiences—growing the
community at Yale necessary for such scholarship in the process.
Applicants’ research should fit within one or both of two subfields: 1)
Racial Attitudes and Political Participation (e.g., estimating the role of
prejudice in politics, topics in sexuality and gender identity, race and
attitudes towards climate justice, etc.) and 2) Race, Systems, and
Institutions (e.g., the intersections of race and class, race and
artificial intelligence, race relations in specific domains such as
education, child welfare, public administration, etc). All applicants will
be jointly appointed with African American Studies and either Political
Science, Psychology, or Sociology. Candidates will share their teaching and
service expectations between their two departments. Candidates who wish to
be considered for more than one combination (e.g., African American Studies
and Psychology and/or African American Studies and Sociology) should
indicate which positions they wish to be considered for. The initial
appointment will be for 5 years. The teaching expectation is normally 3
courses per academic year.
*3. Open Rank, American Politics (http://apply.interfolio.com/151671
<http://apply.interfolio.com/151671>)*
The Department of Political Science at Yale University is seeking to hire
multiple faculty members with expertise in American Politics at the rank of
Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, beginning July 1, 2025. A
successful applicant should focus on substantive questions in any area of
American Politics. Candidates will be expected to teach courses in American
Politics commensurate with their experience. If candidates are appointed at
the untenured level, the initial appointment will be for 5 years. The
teaching expectation is normally 3 courses per academic year.
*4. Open Rank, Comparative Politics and International Relations, including
a position in African Politics and Environmental Politics
(http://apply.interfolio.com/151662 <http://apply.interfolio.com/151662>)*
The Department of Political Science at Yale University is seeking to hire
several faculty members at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full
Professor with an appointment in the fields of *Comparative Politics,
Political Economy, and/or International Relations*, beginning July 1, 2025.
Suitable candidates may also be hired jointly with the Jackson School of
Global Affairs, in which case faculty will be expected to share their
teaching and service obligations between both the Political Science
Department and the Jackson School of Global Affairs. This search includes
additional resources in two targeted areas within this broader search area.
The first is for an assistant professor with expertise in *African Politics*,
who will teach at least one course cross-listed with, and contribute to,
Yale’s Council on African Studies. The second is for a candidate who works
on *Environmental Politics*, jointly appointed with the Jackson School of
Global Affairs. Candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate and
graduate courses in areas of political science commensurate with their
expertise. Candidates jointly appointed with Jackson will also teach
courses in Jackson's undergraduate and graduate curriculum. If candidates
are appointed at the untenured level, the initial appointment will be for 5
years. The teaching expectation is normally 3 courses per academic year.
*5. Open Rank, South Asian Politics (http://apply.interfolio.com/151100
<http://apply.interfolio.com/151100>)*
The Department of Political Science at Yale University is seeking to hire a
faculty member with expertise in *South Asian Politics* at the rank of
Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, beginning July 1, 2025. A
successful applicant should focus on substantive questions in any major
subfield(s) of political science, with reference to the domestic and/or
international politics of one or more of the following countries:
Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
Expected teaching, commensurate with the candidate's expertise, will be in
South Asian Politics. If candidates are appointed at the untenured level,
the initial appointment will be for 5 years. The teaching expectation is
normally 3 courses per academic year.
*6. Associate/Full Professor, International History/Global History jointly
with the Jackson School (https://apply.interfolio.com/147211
<https://apply.interfolio.com/147211>)*
Yale University seeks applicants with expertise in the field of
international/global history or international relations for a tenured
faculty position at the Associate or Full Professor level, to begin 1 July
2025. The successful candidate will receive a fully joint appointment in
the Jackson School of Global Affairs and either the Faculty of Arts and
Sciences’ Department of History or its Department of Political Science. The
appointee will be expected to teach courses in international relations or
international/global history and share their teaching and service
obligations between both the Jackson School and the Faculty of Arts and
Sciences.
