[Poscgrad] Political Science Spring Awards Winners

Dear Colleagues,



The Undergraduate Committee has chosen recipients for three annual
undergraduate awards.



The *Political Science Outstanding Student* award is given annually to one
or more rising seniors who have strong scholastic records and who have made
outstanding contributions in community service and/or in department and
campus organizations.  This year’s winners will receive monetary awards of
$1,000.  The students chosen as “honorable mention” recipients will each
receive $500.



The winners of this year’s Outstanding Student Awards are *Avanti Abhyankar*,
*Allison Wang*, and *Michelle Wang*. The committee also voted to award two
“Honorable Mentions” to students with strong scholastic and service
records: *Connor Creach *and* Adelina Hernandez.*



*Pay It Forward First Generation University Student Awards* are given based
on merit to students who will be juniors or seniors who are studying
political science and who are in the first generation of their family to
pursue a university-level education. This year’s winners will all receive
monetary awards of $2,000.



The committee chose four winners of the *Pay It Forward *award*:* *Antriana
Bigiazian, Liliana Moreno-Angel, Jared Roman, and Mark Valenzuela*.



We also voted to designate Pay it Forward “Honorable Mentions.”  Each of
the following students will receive monetary awards of $150 each: *Eva
Luna, Mildred Olivares, Bryanna Hall*, and *Adelina Hernandez*.



Finally, *Judge Ernest M. Lopez Memorial Grant(s) *are awarded to one or
more rising seniors who are disadvantaged by social or economic hardship
and who will be applying to law school.  The grants are to help cover the
costs of preparing for and applying to law school.  This year’s recipients
will receive $500 each:  *Michelle Wang, Adelina Hernandez, *and* Mildred
Olivares*.



As always, thanks to the other committee members: Josh, Kelechi, Laura, Ron
and Yasemin. And thanks to Donna for her great work soliciting applicants
and to Victoria and Christina for help administering the awards.



We’ll be doing another round of awards next year, so please keep your eye
out for good candidates.
