This year’s winners will receive monetary awards of $1,000. The students chosen as “honorable mention” recipients will each receive $500.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background:white"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#222222"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background:white"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#222222">The winners of this year’s Outstanding Student Awards are <b>Avanti Abhyankar</b>, <b>Allison Wang</b>, and <b>Michelle Wang</b>. The committee also voted to award two “Honorable Mentions” to students with strong scholastic and service records: <b>Connor Creach </b>and<b> Adelina Hernandez.</b></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background:white"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#222222"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background:white"><b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#222222">Pay It Forward First Generation University Student Awards</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#222222"> are given based on merit to students who will be juniors or seniors who are studying political science and who are in the first generation of their family to pursue a university-level education. This year’s winners will all receive monetary awards of $2,000. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background:white"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#222222"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background:white"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#222222">The committee chose four winners of the <b>Pay It Forward </b>award<b>:</b> <b>Antriana Bigiazian, Liliana Moreno-Angel, Jared Roman, and Mark Valenzuela</b>. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background:white"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#222222"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background:white"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#222222">We also voted to designate Pay it Forward “Honorable Mentions.” Each of the following students will receive monetary awards of $150 each: <b>Eva Luna, Mildred Olivares, Bryanna Hall</b>, and <b>Adelina Hernandez</b>.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background:white"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#222222"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background:white"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#222222">Finally, <b>Judge Ernest M. Lopez Memorial Grant(s) </b>are awarded to one or more rising seniors who are disadvantaged by social or economic hardship and who will be applying to law school. The grants are to help cover the costs of preparing for and applying to law school. This year’s recipients will receive $500 each: <b>Michelle Wang, Adelina Hernandez, </b>and<b> Mildred Olivares</b>.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background:white"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#222222"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="background:white"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#222222">As always, thanks to the other committee members: Josh, Kelechi, Laura, Ron and Yasemin.
