Hi All,
It's time to hold an election for GSA and bring in some new students to
help out with department life. I want to emphasize that GSA is an
organization that is what the students who are actively in it make of it.
Level of engagement varies greatly even from quarter to quarter and that is
100% ok. However, it is really important that we have a presence in the
Campus-wide GSA and some students to help out the chair and grad
advisor with things like orientation, office space, admissions, etc. This
is to say, I hope- given our busy schedules- some people are willing to
help the department over the next year.
The elections will be conducted over the course of this week and next.
Linked here is the form to declare candidacy for any of the roles:
https://forms.gle/1Evp431c37VbCs3JA. Descriptions for each role are at the
bottom of this email. *The deadline for declaring candidacy will be at
11:59pm this Friday (June 7th). *After we have a list of candidates, *voting
will occur June 10th at 9:00am- June 12th at 11:59pm.*
I also want to monologue, for a second, in recap of the past year as GSA
president. I've been doing work with this organization for two years now-
and even if I haven't been the most attentive to the role in recent months-
I am proud of the things we've accomplished from coffee socials, to
pedagogy roundtables (shout out Adam's admin), to working on admitted
students day, and small things like keeping campus space clean. I
especially want to shout out Greg Hutchins for his attentiveness as GSA Rep
this quarter, Deren Onursal who's also served for two years in this org,
and Emre Cebeci our VP. Graduate school is a long, intense journey and I
have learned so much about myself and academia through this role. I don't
think we get the opportunity to say this often enough, but I want to say*
thank you,* sincerely, to everyone in this program. I am so appreciative to
be in a department with congeniality that has made graduate school an
incredible time of personal and academic growth.
