Dear Graduate Students,

We are writing to update you on the fall quarter TA situation. Thank you
all for your patience and understanding throughout this entire process,
including our initial email exchanges, the hybrid town hall meeting in
July, and our subsequent communications on this issue.

Of the 46 students who had requested TA positions for fall, 32 have been
offered TAships, 3 have been offered AI positions, 4 will be GSRs, 3 found
employment in other departments, and the remaining 4 have made other
arrangements such as Ready to Enroll status (and in one case, graduation
with a job lined up).

Going forward, we will continue to keep everyone informed each quarter of
their position in the TA rankings and otherwise be as transparent as
possible about the TA assignment process. We will keep you informed of
employment opportunities outside the department as well. As promised, we
will also do everything we can to support your pursuit of external funding,
including encouraging faculty to increase their mentoring efforts on that
front.

Finally, thank you for working together with us to handle this difficult
situation. The success of the handling of this crisis is a testament to the
combined efforts of you as graduate students cooperating to find positive
sum solutions as well as to the commitment of the department to maintain
graduate student support.

Best Regards,

Kevin, Nick, & Marissa, on behalf of the faculty

Greg, on behalf of the GSA leadership

P.S. Special thanks to Gary Kuzas for his outstanding efforts to support
our department despite his extremely overloaded schedule. Gary is amazing,
and we could not have gotten through this without him.
