Subject: For your Ph.D. candidates: TT Americanist position at Ursinus
College
To: marissa.brookes at ucr.edu <marissa.brookes at ucr.edu>

Dear Professor Brookes,

Could you please share this *tenure-track position at Ursinus College *(details
below) with interested PhD candidates or recent PhDs in your graduate
program? We are looking for candidates in *American politics * (any
subfield). This is a great position for candidates who appreciate a healthy
balance of research and undergraduate teaching and mentoring.

A few notes that may not be obvious from the job description:

· Ursinus offers considerable research support for full-time faculty
for conference travel or other research expenses.

· Ursinus is located about 30 miles from center city Philadelphia,
and a substantial amount of our faculty members live in the city and take
advantage of research or other collaborations with faculty at institutions
in the greater Philadelphia area.

· All faculty members have access to support and mentoring toward
teaching through our Center for Teaching and Learning, a particularly
valuable resource for early-career scholars with less teaching experience
in the liberal arts.

I would be happy to answer any questions from interested candidates. Myself
and other members of my department will also be at APSA to answer any
questions in person. Thank you very much for distributing this opportunity
among your students.

Many thanks,

Johannes

*The Department of Politics and International Relations at Ursinus College
invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position
specializing in American politics (any subfield), to begin in Fall 2025. *

*Responsibilities *

We seek a teacher-scholar broadly trained in political science who is
interested in strengthening the department’s commitment to active learning.
The successful candidate will teach Introduction to American Government and
upper-level courses on American political institutions and Constitutional
interpretation as well as other courses related to the candidate’s area of
interest.

The successful candidate will also maintain a productive research program
that will support undergraduate student achievement. The successful
candidate will be expected to advise and mentor students, so applicants
should be interested in contributing to student success and expanding
opportunities for experiential learning, e.g. by supervising internships,
directing student research and honors projects, and contributing to
community-based learning initiatives. All full-time faculty members also
contribute to academic advising for students in the Politics major as well
as small groups of first-year students across majors.

The Ursinus College faculty is a diverse community of teacher-scholars
dedicated to providing transformative experiences for a diverse student
body in a highly reflective process embedded in our core curriculum. As
part of its commitment to liberal education, all entering students
participate in a seminar course called the Common Intellectual Experience
with a common syllabus. As the aim of this course is to foster an
intellectual community on campus, the successful candidate will contribute
to the teaching of this course every few years.

*Requirements and Qualifications *

Ph.D. by the time of appointment is required, and teaching experience is
strongly preferred.

*Anticipated Start Date *

Fall 2025

*Application *

Interested candidates should apply here
<https://iaotqy.fa.ocs.oraclecloud.com/hcmUI/CandidateExperience/en/sites/CX_1/job/100/?utm_medium=jobshare>.
Applicants should provide a cover letter with statements describing (1)
their commitment to, philosophy of, and previous experiences with
undergraduate teaching, preferably in a liberal arts setting, (2) a
research program that will support undergraduate student achievement, and
(3) their experience and/or approach to supporting an inclusive community,
broadly conceived. Submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, and
transcripts. Applicants also should submit a list of their three
references. Letters of recommendation will be requested only of applicants
who are invited to a virtual interview in mid-October. Review of
applications will begin October 1, 2024 and continue until the position is
filled. Inquiries about the position are welcome and should be directed to
the chair of the search committee, Dr. Johannes Karreth, at
jkarreth at ursinus.edu. Members of the department will be at the 2024 APSA
meeting in Philadelphia and available for informal conversations about this
position.
