Hi All,
I am not sure if you also received this email from the Dean's office about
compassionate care accommodations being phased out, so I am forwarding it.
While I am less directly involved in making requests for accommodations
moving forward in winter/spring, if you have questions, I am happy to help
figure out options.
Best,
Jenn

LETTER* FROM THE DEAN*
Nov. 4, 2022
In alignment with the October, 20, 2022, compassionate care announcement
<https://ucr.us14.list-manage.com/track/click?u=95843fcf3bb9172f37ecbd4af&id=851b6c6f84&e=4fdcddea69>
by Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Elizabeth Watkins and Vice
Chancellor Gerry Bomotti, CHASS will be phasing out existing COVID-19
compassionate accommodations over the Winter and Spring quarters with an
expectation that all accommodations for CHASS faculty and staff will be
concluded no later than June 30, 2023.
If you have a *medical condition or disability* that requires
accommodations effective January 1, 2023 or later, please refer to the
Provost’s instruction:
“Employees with a medical condition or disability should contact Human
Resources about whether they qualify for an accommodation
<https://ucr.us14.list-manage.com/track/click?u=95843fcf3bb9172f37ecbd4af&id=2e64851a8a&e=4fdcddea69>
as was the case prior to the start of the pandemic.”
If you have caregiving responsibilities that continue to require
accommodations beyond January 1, 2023, please refer to the appropriate
section below:
Instructional Activities
While instructors of record, instructional assistants, instructional
support staff, and their academic supervisors maintain wide discretion over
the design and delivery of curriculum, any official change of modality
reflected in the schedule of courses must go through the standing Academic
Senate
<https://ucr.us14.list-manage.com/track/click?u=95843fcf3bb9172f37ecbd4af&id=98b609e925&e=4fdcddea69>
review process.
For those seeking a modality change for caregiving duties (or any other
reason) in winter/spring 2023 and beyond, contact your enrollment manager
to assist with completing the necessary exception request and course
submission as soon as possible.
Exception requests for Winter 2023 will need to get to the CHASS Executive
Committee no later than November 10, 2022, therefore you should submit the
exception request and course materials for modality change to your
enrollment manager by close of business Monday, November 7, 2022.
Non-Instructional Activities
Staff and faculty seeking an extension to an existing Compassionate Care
Accommodation, via remote work, should work through their supervisor to
complete the CHASS Winter/Spring 2023 Compassionate Care Request Form
<https://ucr.us14.list-manage.com/track/click?u=95843fcf3bb9172f37ecbd4af&id=b038e6e040&e=4fdcddea69>.
The deadline is November 30, 2022.
All requests will be reviewed by the Office of the Dean, and approvals will
be routed to CHASS HR or CHASS AP for documentation as a modification of an
existing telework agreement. No caregiving accommodation will be extended
beyond June 30, 2023.
Remote work accommodations should be regularly revisited by supervisors to
ensure they meet the workload needs of the unit and remain consistent with
current health and safety conditions. These remote work accommodations can
be adjusted at any time.
CHASS will continue to expand its in-person operations while being mindful
of the health and safety of our college community. We have a strategic
return-to-work plan

in place and are mindful that some members of our College still require
specific accommodations for their health and well-being balanced alongside
operational needs.
If you have specific questions about the compassionate care process or
eligibility, please contact Susan Brown <susan.brown at ucr.edu> for academics
or Erika Leon <erika.leon at ucr.edu> for staff.
