Dear all,

I am pleased to announce that we will hold the first workshop, "*Preparing for the Job Market in Political Science*" on *May 27th, 2022, from 9 am to 12:05 pm*. The event will be online via Zoom. It is likely that it will be recorded, pending confirmation from the organizers. I will send an announcement on the week of the event to confirm if it will be recorded.

Presented by the Claremont Graduate University Inequality and Policy Research Center (IPRC) and the UCR Department of Political Science, the goal of the workshop is to provide valuable tips and practical advice from leading faculty and professionals in the non-profit and government sectors and help you to power up your job-seeking strategies in academia and beyond. Topics include
- building portfolios,
- nailing remote and on-campus job interviews,
- the ideal timeline for portfolio preparation, among various other topics.

Speakers will discuss academic jobs, teaching positions, and non-academic job alternatives to traditional careers in political science - sometimes called alt-ac - for scholars working in non-faculty professional positions. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with the panelists and ask questions during the event.

*Please fill [[https://forms.gle/dqCJfpx8wSf6JCqY9][this]] (https://forms.gle/dqCJfpx8wSf6JCqY9) if you plan to attend.* If you are not attending this time but have suggestions of topics that you would like to see in the workshop in future iterations, please use that same link to let us know and provide your suggestions. We want to hear your opinion to make sure that the job market workshops are comprehensive.

This is the first one of two events that we will offer this year. The next will be announced later in July/August, and this second one will give students the opportunity to present their job market paper and/or share their portfolio with the participating faculty to receive feedback on the application material.

/Who should attend?/

Graduate students planning to enter the job market within the next two years are encouraged to attend the workshop, but all graduate students are welcome to attend.
