Subject: Call for Proposals: Multi-investigator Study REPS Lab Fall 2022
To:

Greetings, all-

I am writing to invite you to propose a module for the spring *Race,
Ethnicity, Politics, & Society (REPS) Lab Study*. The aim of this
multi-investigator effort is to field a carefully-crafted instrument on a
diverse subject pool that draws on undergraduates from four campuses: UCLA,
UC Riverside, UC Irvine, and Howard University. We anticipate starting data
collection for the fall quarter by mid-October 2022.

In an effort to make each omnibus study more attractive to PIs (and
potential reviewers), we are currently working with a professional survey
firm to help supplement our student samples with adults from the four major
groups our studies typically recruits from. At the moment, we are
determining the financial feasibility of adding 200 African American, 200
Asian American, 200 Latino, and 200 non-Hispanic White adults to each
omnibus study we undertake. I’ll keep you posted on the outcome of these
negotiations. But I wanted to let you know that there might be an
additional improvement on this front in the near future.

If you wish to compete for space on this omnibus study, please submit a
brief proposal to the REPS Lab at uclarepslab at gmail.com by *Friday,
September 16th, 2022.* This will provide us with the time
needed to evaluate proposals and apply to UCLA’s Institutional Review Board
(IRB). As Lab Director, I will submit a UCLA IRB application that will
cover all the UCLA investigators involved in this data collection. UCLA
investigators will be allowed to share data with their UCR, UCI, and Howard
collaborators.

Graduate students who are interested should follow the protocol in the
enclosed attachment.

Faculty who are interested in participating in this study should send a
one- to two-paragraph description of their proposed experiment, a list of
questions to be fielded, and an estimate of how much time you think your
module will take. Proposals can assume that a set of common demographic
variables will be collected for investigators.

In previous studies, nearly 25 professors from UCLA, UC Riverside, UC
Irvine, and Howard University have generously agreed to allow the REPS
lab to recruit participants from their high-enrollment courses. If you
wish to volunteer your class for this purpose, please send us an email. We
would be grateful for your help, especially during these challenging and
uncertain times.

The intellectual program of the REPS Lab depends upon the support of our
colleagues. This includes those instructors who allow us to recruit from
their courses, as well as the researchers proposing instrumentation. We are
very thankful for your help in making this omnibus study a reality. Thank
you for your time.

Sincerely,

Efrén Pérez
