Hi everyone,
Just a reminder that you're invited to our upcoming CECI Seminar! We’re
excited to have Disha Kapasi, from Cal State Fullerton, who will be giving
a talk on: *Technologies For Next-Generation Gravitational Wave Detectors*
------------------------------
*Date:* 4/30/25
*Time:* 3:00PM-4:00PM
*Location:* Physics Reading Room, 3035
*Speaker:* Disha Kapasi
*Affiliation:*Cal State Fullerton
*Talk Title:* *Technologies For Next-Generation Gravitational Wave
Detectors*
*Abstract: *Disha Kapasi from Cal State Fullerton will present
groundbreaking research on advancing technologies for next-generation
gravitational wave detectors at the upcoming CECI Seminar. Her work focuses
on optimizing materials and designs—particularly the use of crystalline
silicon (cSi)—to minimize thermal noise and optical losses in future
observatories like the Einstein Telescope and Cosmic Explorer. She is
developing a cryogenic, low-vibration test facility to study
opto-mechanical cavities using silicon cantilevers, which could
significantly influence the suspension systems of future detectors.
Additionally, her research involves testing novel optical coatings such as
Ti:Ge at high temperatures using an air annealing scatterometer, in
collaboration with Caltech and MIT, to identify optimal methods for
reducing coating thermal noise.
