Dear all,
Please join us for this week’s Physics & Astronomy Colloquium on Thursday,
May 1, featuring Dr. Alexander Ji, Assistant Professor of Astronomy and
Astrophysics at the University of Chicago.
🗓 Thursday, May 1, 2025
🕓 Colloquium at 3:40 PM
📍 Winston Chung Hall, Room 138
☕ Coffee at 3:00 PM – Barkas Lounge (3049 Physics)
🎓 Grad Student Meet & Greet at 2:30 PM – Barkas Lounge
*Talk Title:*
Near Field Cosmology with Dwarf Galaxies in the LSST Era
*About the Talk:*
Dr. Ji will explore how dwarf galaxies orbiting the Milky Way can help us
understand the early universe and dark matter. His talk will cover two key
avenues of research in the upcoming LSST era: tidal debris studies and the
classification of ultra-faint galaxies. These efforts promise to deepen our
understanding of galaxy formation and the properties of dark matter.
*Speaker Bio:*
Dr. Alexander Ji received his PhD in Physics from MIT in 2017, followed by
postdoctoral fellowships at Carnegie Observatories. He joined the
University of Chicago in 2021. His research in near-field cosmology uses
nearby stars and galaxies to probe the nature of dark matter and the
earliest epochs of the universe.
We look forward to seeing you there!
