Imaging the invisible: Controlled exciton binding and dissociation in a tunable type-I to type-II TMD heterojunction

  Jedediah Kistner-Morris
University of California, Riverside

Abstract: Effective control of the energy topography of nanoscale semiconductors is valuable for both next generation devices and for developing a deeper understanding of fundamental electronic principles. We show evidence for a high level of control over the band alignment – and thereby the excitonic behavior – in 2D van der Waals heterojunctions of MoSe2 /WS2 . This control can only be established through holistic imaging. By stitching together complimentary measurements we develop a deep understanding of both the energetic topography and the electronic behavior and interactions within this semiconductor system.
