Note: There will be no Bayz event next week, but mark your calendars for
these other October events:
- *10/22 “We Sound, Therefore We Exist,” Renata Flores, Quechua Rapper
and Singer-Songwriter* - In this event, Quechua rapper and
singer-songwriter Renata Flores, also known as “The Queen of Quechua Rap,”
will perform some of her songs and talk about her career, as well as how
she expresses social and political concerns through her music and
aesthetics. She is well known for sonically inhabiting the in-betweenness
of traditional Andean soundscapes and global pop genres such as hip-hop,
trap, cumbia, and reggaeton.
- *10/29, “Beats, Circuits, and Beyond,” A Solo Set by Jesse Justice, LA
Musician* - Los Angeles–based musician Jesse Justice brings his modular
synth setup to the Florence Bayz Music Series for an afternoon of
experimental sound and improvisation. Justice first made his name in LA as
a beatmaker before turning toward the Rhodes piano and composing in various
jazz styles. As a member of the electronic jazz trio Human Error Club and
the collectives Preference Records and The Village, he has co-produced
projects spanning neo-soul, hip hop, and exploratory jazz. His current solo
practice focuses on the textures of modular synthesis, using an
amalgamation of prepared and improvised techniques. In this performance,
Justice invites listeners into a sonic landscape where circuitry,
improvisation, and collective histories of experimental sound converge.
See you tomorrow!
