Biochemistry has started a list of critical pieces of research equipment at Boyce and Webber Hall that need back-up power during the proposed power interruptions. The google link of this list is:

Good afternoon all,
I apologize if you will be receiving this email twice (and for the length of it), but there are a few variations in the recipients for the notifications that were sent out and I want to make sure this communication goes out to everyone that was included in the previous notification emails.
Thank you all for your patience as we have been coordinating in the background with the design and construction team over the last week to see how the impacts of the proposed shutdowns can be reduced. The team was able to drastically reduce the durations of the proposed shutdowns by separating the shutdowns for each individual affected building, by pre-planning and completing as many items as possible ahead of time and also by revising the testing procedure for the cables. The new approach has helped us reduce the proposed durations to the affected buildings in the following manner:
- Boyce Hall – shutdown revised duration of up to 5 hours. For this shutdown the emergency/backup power will be available from the 2.5MW generator, however this will only feed the red outlets on floors 5, 4 and half of 3rd which were part of the renovated area. I visited Boyce this week and there are indeed red plugs on the above mentioned floors and I did see equipment plugged in at these outlets.
- Webber Hall – shutdown revised duration of up to 4 hours. For this shutdown the emergency/backup power will be available from the 2.5MW generator, however this will only feed the red outlets on 3rd floor, which is part of the renovated area. I also visited Webber this week and there are indeed red plugs on the 3rd floor and I did see some equipment plugged in at these outlets.
- SOM ED – shutdown revised duration of up to 4 hours. Only emergency power will be available and will be provided by the 500kW generator that serves this building. We will coordinate with FS as needed to make sure the emergency generator is on ahead of time and feeds the necessary power to the data core to avoid any interruptions to the network services.
I know per communication I had with some of the Webber and Boyce Hall occupants that are residing on the floors that are currently not renovated and not back fed with generator power that even with these reduced durations there are critical pieces of research equipment that would still need power during these proposed outages. Since it is an extensive coordination effort for our team to be able to calculate capacity needs, secure the required generators and the infrastructure that will be ran in the buildings plus installing it (we are talking about cabling through the building and distribution boxes aka spider boxes plus cords), we are kindly requesting your help in identifying those critical pieces of research equipment at Boyce and Webber Hall that need back-up power during the proposed power interruptions mentioned above. Please note that the upper floors at Boyce (5,4 and half of 3rd) and Webber (3rd) will have backup power at the red outlets from the existing generator.
We would need the room number, type and count of equipment, voltage (110/120V or 208/240V) and amperage(if possible) for each of these pieces of critical pieces. We can come and visit each of these labs to confirm if this is easier, but we will need your help so we can navigate this effort together and make it as short as possible in order to try and maintain our critical construction activities of the new building moving forward. My objective is to still try to do these shutdowns as soon as possible and if we can all collaborate and gather the required information for the critical equipment quickly I am hopeful that we can still accomplish these shutdowns sometime next week.
Would you find it acceptable that we keep the communication required for identifying the critical equipment going through the Chairs of each department in these buildings? I am not trying to impose a process, I just want to find the most efficient way to communicate and get started on the effort for information gathering purposes. If this is acceptable, perhaps the information for the critical equipment can be shared with your Chair that can in turn share it with me? I am flexible and open to defining this process as needed for efficiency purposes. I am sharing attached to this email a sample draft list of equipment that I have already received from the Biochem Dept.
I understand this is not ideal and it takes effort to coordinate the information on the critical equipment so I am very appreciative of all your support and input during this process.
