PROJECT JOSH AND FRIENDS - Pre-Health Student Org.

Are you interested in making a positive impact in the lives of hospitalized
children in your community? It's easier than you think!

Project Josh and Friends, a community service organization on campus, is
currently in the running to receive a $50,000 grant from the Pepsi "Refresh"
campaign. You can help us win by voting everyday during the month of
October at
http://www.refresheverything.com/joshandfriends

What does this project do?
Most children enter the hospital having little or no idea about what to
expect. This causes them to experience tremendous stress during their
hospital stay and can ultimately become a detriment to their ability to
heal. Project Josh and Friends seeks to alleviate the stress associated
with hospitalization through the use of the human-animal bond.
The goal of Project Josh and Friends is to provide hospitalized children at
the Loma Linda University Children's Hospital with a "Josh Kit." Each kit
includes a "Josh" plush puppy as well as a book entitled I'll be OK. The
book tells the story of a golden retriever puppy named Josh who goes through
an experience at a Veterinary Hospital which ultimately helps him get back
to his normal healthy state. By reading the book, children learn about
diagnostic procedures, surgery, and recovery all the while being affirmed by
Josh's favorite phrase: "I'll be OK." The plush puppy serves an integral
role in helping children cope with the stress of a hospital stay. Josh
stays with them everywhere they go, serving as a constant reminder that the
hospital doesn't have to be a scary place and that they too will be OK.

How can you help?
Please visit http://www.refresheverything.com/joshandfriends and vote for
this project, you can vote once every day during the month of October.
Also, please share this information with everyone you know. With the
support of the entire UCR community, there is no telling how far this
project could go.

How can you become a member of this organization?
For more information regarding how to join this project please email Paige
Stevens at pstev002 at ucr.edu or visit our student organization homepage by
