INTERESTED IN A HEALTH PROFESSION PROGRAM SUCH AS MED SCHOOL?

change in your community?
Med Schools, Pharm Schools, Dental Schools, etc. sure want to see that in

Next week on Tuesday there will be a presentation on campus to learn how you
can incorporate a passion for scholarship/ research and community action.

Activity in the Community!
Are you interested in research that meets local needs? Do you want to
collaborate with faculty and community partners on projects in our local or
global communities?
Join Undergraduate Research in the Community (UGRC)!
Information Session: NEXT Tuesday, October 5, 2010: 2:10-3PM in the Honors
Office Conference Room (Olmsted 2312)
The UGRC program assists undergraduate students of all disciplines in
developing their own community-based research projects by partnering them
with faculty mentors and community partners. UGRC participants learn in
community with other undergraduate researchers in a quarterly UGRC Seminar
(2 Units, S/NC) and can continue their projects year-around with the support
of their peers and mentors.
Previous projects have included
à A team of Sociology students serve as mentors in local high schools to
study best practices in mentorship and outreach
à A team of Political Science and Statistics students collect and analyze
data on indicators of economic distress from Riverside homeless shelters
à A Psychology student develops and assesses child art therapy methods at a
local breast cancer resource center
à An Environmental Science student facilitates a service-learning seminar on
developing sustainable food systems in Riverside, inviting local leaders as
key speakers
à School of Business Administration students develop business plans and
social networking strategies in collaboration with local non-profits and
small, start-up businesses
