Hi All,
As you can see from the calendar invites, we will resume our group meetings
starting from July 30th and meet every other week during the summer. Please
let me know if you don't get the invitation. If I remember correctly, you
will be presenting in the following order. Please make sure that you send
an announcement to the group *at least one week *before your presentation.
Shiwei
Brian
Kiano
Liming
Yudi
I realize that I have taken on the primary responsibility of selecting
papers for many past journal clubs, which was not my original intention.
While I am happy to provide guidance, you are expected to come up with some
candidates. The papers discussed do not have to be single-cell studies;
they can cover any topics related to statistics, data science, and
bioinformatics, as long as there are elements worth discussing and learning
from during our group meetings.
If you cannot identify a paper worth discussing for your turn, this may
indicate that you are not reading enough as a PhD student. If you
consistently find it challenging to select papers, I suggest signing up for
email alerts to receive notifications about new preprints or newly
published issues from relevant journals. Almost all journals offer this
feature, and you can see one example below (see "sign up for alerts"):

This will help you stay up-to-date with the latest research. Examples
include Nature Methods, Nature Communications, Genome Biology, and bioRxiv.
After the fall quarter begins, presenters are expected to announce their
selection one week before their presentation, during the earlier group
meeting. If you would like to discuss your selection with me, feel free to
do so before the announcement, but reach out early so there;s enough time
to make a decision. You can easily tell when you are supposed to present
based on the fixed order, so please plan accordingly.
Best,
Vivian
