[Lilab] Preparing for the new quarter

Hi All,

With the start of a new quarter, I'd like to reiterate several expectations
to enhance communication within the group.

1. Please ensure prompt responses to group emails and messages by regularly
checking your inbox on workdays. Aim to reply to emails received in the
morning on the same day and those in the late afternoon no later than the
following day.
2. Unless it's a university holiday or weekend, the assumption is that you
are working. If you plan to take days off that may impact projects or email
responses, seek approval *before the intended leave* rather than notifying
afterward.
3. Submit your timesheets in the university's system on time.
4. Attend individual or group meetings on time. If you anticipate a delay,
inform the group in advance. Group meetings will commence on time starting
this quarter, so be prepared to arrive a few minutes early.
5. Emphasizing the importance of staying updated with the literature, we'll
try a new approach this quarter. Instead of using a shared Google doc,
we'll dedicate a few minutes in group meetings for each student to share
the papers they've read in the past two weeks. *Every other week*, students
will take turns (very briefly) discussing papers and recommending
noteworthy ones to the group. For filtering purposes, include a paper only
if you've spent at least 10 minutes on it. We will do the first sharing in
Week 2, so it's time to start taking notes.
Note: The primary goal of this sharing is to cultivate a habit of reading
literature, not to focus on counting. It's acceptable if you haven't done
much reading in a week due to other project plans.

If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to bring them up.
Please confirm receipt of the above messages by replying to this email.

Best,
Vivian
