Subject: The latest on IIGB

Greetings all,
I am writing to brief you on the latest activities and events at the IIGB.
1: Sequencing core
IIGB sequencing core just signed an agreement with the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) to provide them with much needed sequencing services at cost.  This is the first step in establishing our relationship with the state, and we are happy to be able to contribute to UCR's community support efforts.  This process was mainly driven by Katherine Borkovich / Holly and Clay Clark and the IIGB admin team.
In addition, the genomic core's academic coordinator position is now advertised, and a group of experts have graciously agreed to serve on the search committee.

2: Proteomics core
The core's academic coordinator position will be advertised this week and a group of experts have graciously agreed to serve on the search committee.

3: Metabolomics core
Amancio de Souza the new academic coordinator has arrived and has already initiated efforts towards catering to the research needs of our community.
Agreements for moving of the core to MRB1 are completed.  However, due to the delay(s) in Batchlor Hall renovation the dates of the move are  uncertain.  I will keep you posted.

4: Bioinformatics core
As relayed to you earlier, Brandon Li our new Bioinformatics  coordinator will start on Sep 6th.  All actions are taken to welcome him on the day in a functional setting.

5: IIGB interim Director
FYI, I will be on sabbatical from Sept 25th-June 30th 2022. I am hoping to bring back with me newly found knowledge of metabolomic imaging for our future endeavors.
Meanwhile my esteemed colleague Xuemei Chan has graciously agreed to be the interim Director. We have the approval of the dean, and as such the transfer will proceed according to the rules of UCR.
I cannot express how elated I am to have Xuemei as the interim director, as she is amongst the most established and recognized scientists who talks the talk and walks the walk without much fanfare.  Please provide your support and welcome her to the new task.
