Good Morning Everyone,
I hope the past few days have given grace to rest. I'm writing to ask about
environmental justice foci taken up by Health Disparities Research. With
potential for deep community impact, I hope there is, or will be,
considerable attention given to the invasion of Amazon warehouses in the
Inland Empire-- particularly San Bernardino and Rialto. I remember hearing
Dr.Cheney's research about working with (LA?) community to navigate proper
care with respect to the causes of rising asthma rates. In the Inland
Empire warehouses have been implicated in the rise of air pollution, asthma
and cancer rates particularly within children. Nationwide there are acts of
refusal to keep Amazon from polluting and decimating Brown and Black
communities. I believe the resources and skillsets researchers are equipped
with could positively support what Inland Empire community members have
been demanding for decades. With activism in both community and political
office scales I am wondering, is there active communication, collaboration
and support among the Center and the community it is situated in? If this
is absent, why is that the case?
