The UC Student Regent representative is now live! This is an exciting opportunity for all students to participate at the UC Regent level and serve as an advocate for student needs. The Student Regent serves a one-year term as a full voting member of the Board of Regents, preceded by a one-year, non-voting term as Regent-Designate.  (2-year commitment). I have included the New Regent Fillable Application and FAQ’s for your reference in submitting your application.  Application Deadline is March 11, 2024.  All submissions should be emailed in a single PDF to Clare.Sheridan at ucop.edu<mailto:Clare.Sheridan at ucop.edu> and  Brendan.Obrien at ucr.edu<mailto:Brendan.Obrien at ucr.edu>.



Some of the benefits of serving as Student Regent include:



  *   Having all tuition and fees waived and receiving a stipend during the two-year term;
  *   The first fifty officially accepted applicants from UCR will be added to a drawing for a UCR Sweatshirt and Coffee Bean gift card courtesy of ASUCR;
  *   Representing UC’s 294,000 students as a voting member of the Board of Regents;
  *   Influencing UC policy and the decisions that shape the student experience;
  *   Championing the student point of view on issues related to access, affordability and student success;
  *   Honing leadership and governance skills;



There will also be a webinar on Saturday, February 10th from 12pm to 1pm if you are interested in attending.  The Regents will discuss the application process to become the UC Student Regent and will answer questions. On February 15th, we will be hosting the two current UC Student Regent representatives on campus. As part of that visit, the Student Regents will host a Student Town Hall from 12pm to 1:30pm in HUB 355. Lunch will be provided for those who RSVP by Monday, February 5th using the link below. Seating is limited and is available on a first come, first served basis.

Job description

The Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program (McNair Program), is a federally-funded TRIO program that has as its goal to prepare eligible undergraduate students for doctoral studies through involvement in research and other scholarly activities. The UCR McNair program is funded to serve 25 undergraduate students who are first-generation and low-income, or a member of a group that is underrepresented in graduate education. The McNair program seeks a Graduate Student Assistant to support the program with designated outreach, retention, and mentoring activities as well as provide programmatic support and assistance with data entry/recordkeeping.

This position is an academic year and summer appointment requiring 15 hours per week. The position has an expected end date of August 30, 2024. It is a grant funded position and is subject to availability of continued grant funding. Students may not be otherwise employed on campus.

Responsibilities/Essential Job Functions:

  *   Provide mentoring for undergraduate students participating in the McNair program, including guidance with research and graduate school preparation and assistance with graduate school applications.
  *   Assist in event coordination of quarterly and/or summer workshops focused on research skills & graduate school preparation.
  *   Assist McNair program staff with scheduling events, organizing workshops and symposia, and designing marketing materials.
  *   Support the McNair summer research program.
  *   Assist with recruitment of program participants, such as facilitating presentations and information sessions, conducting one-on-one meetings, and answering questions from prospective applicants.
  *   Assist with data collection, entry, and analyses, program evaluation, and the maintenance of electronic databases.
  *   Handle confidential and sensitive data with integrity
  *   Perform other duties as assigned



General Eligibility and Preferred Requirements:

  *   Must be authorized to work in the US
  *   Must be enrolled as a full-time graduate student while employed and remain in good standing with the university
  *   Must be able to work closely with, and create responsible programming for, a diverse student population
  *   Must have excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills
  *   Must have familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Canva
  *   Experience mentoring underrepresented students preferred
  *   Knowledge of TRIO programs, preparation for doctoral program application process, and campus resources preferred.

Work Schedule:

  *   Monday– Friday between the hours of 8:00 AM-5:00 PM (PST). Individual work schedule will be determined based on student availability.
  *   15 hours/week
  *   Rate: $25/hour
