[Gradstudents] Graduation & Advancement to Candidacy - Spring 2024

This email is intended for students completing their degree requirements in Spring 2024. All others may disregard this message.

Dear SOE Graduate Students:

If you plan to finish your degree requirements in Spring 2024, please note the following items:

Master’s Students:
1) If you are a master’s student that finished all required coursework in Winter 2024 and plan to complete your thesis, written exam, or analytical report/case study/portfolio in Spring 2024, you can request to go on Filing Fee Status for one quarter. This request allows you to complete the capstone requirement and only pay the filing fee, currently assessed at $201. If you want to request Filing Fee Status, fill out the application on R’Grad via R’Web by March 1st. Note: if you are a researcher (paid GSR position) or TA, you cannot go on filing fee and maintain your position. Contact me for more information about this.
2) If you plan to finish your coursework and capstone project/exam in Spring 2024, fill out the application for “Advancement to Candidacy” on R’Grad via R’Web by April 1st. If you plan to request Filing Fee Status, you will need to submit both the filing fee and application for candidacy together by March 1st.
3) Fill out the graduation application on R’Web no later than April 8th.
MA Students: If you are finishing a thesis, you will need to nominate your thesis committee. The nomination form is part of the “Advancement to Candidacy” form which can be found on R’Grad via R’Web. Also, for those completing a thesis, follow the steps found here<https://graduate.ucr.edu/dissertation-and-thesis-submission> and the deadlines found here<https://graduate.ucr.edu/graduation-procedures#step_3_apply_to_graduate.>.
MED Students: If you are completing an analytical report/policy report, you will need to email me your approved paper (cc: your faculty advisor) with a signed completion form<https://education.ucr.edu/sites/default/files/2023-06/med_capstone_completion_form_6-2023.pdf> by June 12th.
PhD Students:
1) If you are a PhD student finishing your dissertation and plan to complete your final defense in Spring 2024, you may request to be on Filing Fee Status for one quarter. This request allows you to complete the dissertation requirement and only pay the filing fee, currently assessed at $201. If you want to request Filing Fee Status, fill out the application on R’Grad via R’Web by March 1st.  Note: if you are a GSR, TA or Associate-In, you cannot go on filing fee and maintain your position. Contact me for more information about this.
2) Nominate your dissertation committee no later than two weeks prior to your intended final defense. A copy of the nomination form can be found here<https://graduate.ucr.edu/petitions-and-forms>. Note: you will need to wait for confirmation that your committee was approved prior to your final defense.
3) Fill out the graduation application on R’Web no later than April 8th.

Commencement
PhD students attend the hooding ceremony scheduled June 1, 2024 at 9am on campus and master’s students attend the SOE commencement ceremony scheduled June 17th at 9am at the Toyota Arena in Ontario.
