[Gradstudents] Volunteer Opportunity: Mentorship Program

Undergrad Mentorship Program in Need of UCR Graduate Student Volunteers

My name is Victor Moreira and I'm one of the senior undergraduate academic advisors over in CHASS Advising for the Multidisciplinary Unit.  I also serve as the program director for a new mentorship program in its second year that's being funded by Undergraduate Education for the 2022-2023 academic year - the Blue, Gold, and Black Mentorship Program.  I'm reaching out to you all under the capacity of the program director and not as an academic advisor.

The mentorship program has a specific focus on the Black student experience but is open to all incoming freshmen and transfer students.  Details about the program can be found at https://ue.ucr.edu/bgbmp.  The program exposes the mentees to different mentorship groups and one of those groups is UCR graduate students in pursuit of a master's degree and/or doctoral degree.

The graduate student volunteers would be asked to attend one "meet and greet" event each quarter.  The purpose of the quarterly event is for the mentees and graduate student volunteers to mix and mingle in hopes of achieving the following:


  *   The program mentees learn different tips that can help them academically.
  *   The program mentees get a solid understanding of what life is like as a graduate student.
  *   The graduate students lay the foundation for the program mentees to consider attending graduate school after earning their degree from UCR.

I'm hoping to get at least two graduate student volunteers from each of the colleges/schools: CHASS, CNAS, BCOE, SOB, SOE, SOM, School of Public Policy.  I've also attached a flyer.
