Call for Proposals: Working Groups at the Center for Latino and Latin American Studies Research at the University of California, Riverside

The Center for Latino and Latin American Studies at the University of California, Riverside calls on UCR faculty and graduate students to submit proposals for working groups. Three working groups per year will be opened to faculty at UCR to support their research projects and related graduate student research. Applicants are encouraged to apply for working group funds to support projects on any theme related to Latino and Latin American Studies broadly defined. A group of scholars may propose working groups on labor, indigenous communities, critical carceral studies, radical and decolonial feminisms, Central American Studies, LGBT studies, afro-Latino/ black diaspora studies, literature, decolonial and critical theory, environmental racism, critical criminology, South American studies, among other topics. Preference will be given to working groups that have a component that involves a combination of faculty, graduate students, and community-based partnerships, and that identify larger sources of funding for future projects that could be applied for under the auspices of the Center. Working groups should be composed of at least one tenure track faculty member at UCR, but may include lecturers, graduate students, and/or colleagues and community partners from outside of UCR. In order to maximize regional impact, we encourage UCR faculty to include colleagues from the CSU and/ or the community college system. Working groups will be awarded $10,000 for the academic year. Funds could be used to organize symposiums, mini-conferences, support graduate student research, or to organize a series of events related to a well-articulated theme.

Deadline
May 15, 2021, by midnight. Please email proposals to Director of the Center, Alfonso Gonzales Toribio at the following email address alfonsog at ucr.edu<mailto:alfonsog at ucr.edu>.

Requirements
Proposals should not exceed 2 pages and should contain the CVs of all partners involved (no more than 5 CV pages per participant). Working groups are expected to participate in the intellectual community of the Center and use the Center’s logo on promotional materials.
