Tuesday Feb 10, 2026 ⋅ 12pm – 12:50pm
Pacific Time - Los Angeles

Hello everyone,Our next Geospatial/GIS meetup will be held on Tuesday,
February 10 from 12:00-12:50 pm.The meetup will take place on Zoom, and
will be recorded.Kan Wang, Lecturer at the UCR School of Business, will
give a presentation titled “GIS is Everywhere - From a Business
Perspective.”While GIS as a technology isdeeply technical in nature,
business students need to understand its strategicimpact on the world
around them. Join us for an informal sharing session wherewe look beyond
technical architecture to explore real-world relevance and thepurpose
behind spatial data.In this session, Kan willshare the teaching philosophy
he found most effective for sparking curiosity byhelping students recognize
the invisible spatial technology powering theorganizations they engage with
every day. When students begin to see GIS everywherein places like their
favorite retail apps and global supply chains, they movefrom simply
learning a technical skill to understanding why organizationsdepend on
spatial intelligence for long-term survival and competitiveness.Kan Wangis
a seasoned technology leader and educator with over 18 years of
experiencedriving innovation and digital transformation. As a former
AssistantAssessor-County Clerk-Recorder for the County of Riverside, Kan
worked closelywith dedicated teams to pioneer transformative ways to
leverage technology andGIS to enhance operations and constituent
services.Currently,he serves as a consultant helping counties modernize
through impactfultechnology solutions and is a Lecturer at the UC Riverside
School of Business. There, he specifically teaches the Business Applications
of GeographicInformation System course, drawing on over 15 years of
teaching experience. With dual master's degrees in Business Administration
