[Geospatial] Student presentation opportunities - this month at UCR | February in LA

Hello everyone,

Please share the following opportunities for student presentations.
For ORCA, in the Library later this month, the topic may be something other
than geospatial.
The LA Geospatial Summit, in late February, is a great event for
networking.
Flyers for both events are attached.

1) Regarding ORCA:
The UCR Library invites you to submit your research or creative project
presentation to the *Open Research and Creative Activities (ORCA) Forum*.

The ORCA Forum is a quarterly event hosted by the *UCR Library’s Research
Services Department* at the *Orbach Science Library*. It celebrates
outstanding student projects from across all disciplines and academic
levels at UCR, with a special focus on *interdisciplinary work and open
scholarship*.

Each quarter, finalists are invited to present their research or creative
work *in person at Orbach 122 or via Zoom* before a panel of judges.

The fall quarter 2025 ORCA Forum will take place Monday,* November 24 from
2 - 3:30 p.m. with the submission* *deadline on Monday, November 17.*

Presentations should highlight how project artifacts such as code,
documentation, data, or multimedia have been, or will be, shared
through an *open
access repository*. Finalists also have the option to *publish *their final
presentations on *eScholarship with DOIs.*

For the *Fall ORCA*, *GradSuccess* is sponsoring the event, offering *Barnes

2) Regarding the LA Geospatial Summit:

The USC Spatial Sciences Institute will host the *2026 Los Angeles
Geospatial Summit*

on *Friday,
February 27, 2026*. We formally invite students from the *University of
California, Riverside* to participate.


We encourage both undergraduate and graduate students to submit proposals
for either a poster or a Lightning Talk presentation. While students are
welcome to apply for both formats, each will be selected for one type of
presentation.


Students would submit their abstract proposals to janet.reyes at ucr.edu (the
UCR representative for this event) for review by *Friday, December 5, 2025*.


USC representatives will make the final selection. Selected students will
be notified *Fri., December 19, 2025 — Sat., December 20, 2025*, and asked
to register at the student rate of $25.


Students who are interested in attending without giving a presentation are
also welcome to register at this rate.
