Hello, ArcMap users and everyone else,

At last, the time has come to figuratively wave our hankies, and perhaps shed a wistful tear, as ArcMap vanishes to points unknown.

To be less poetic: hopefully you've seen the messaging from myself and from ITS over the last several months that UCR's ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap) licenses will not be renewed, effective June 10. ArcMap will also be removed from UCR's itopia virtual lab machines.

Quoting from an email Lily Barger at ITS sent to ArcMap users in February:

Last year Esri placed ArcMap / ArcGIS Desktop on mature support, with the product reaching end of life in early 2026. Starting July 1, 2024, Esri stopped issuing new or renewed licenses for ArcMap /ArcGIS Desktop.

ArcMap has been replaced with ArcGIS Pro. Many of our users have already made the switch to ArcGIS Pro and have adapted to the new platform.

Action Needed:

If you are a current user of ArcMap/ArcGIS Desktop, you are strongly encouraged to migrate to ArcGIS Pro as soon as possible. You can access ArcGIS Pro by following the instructions here<https://ucrsupport.service-now.com/ucr_portal?id=kb_article_view&sys_id=e807ff6093ce9a1007c0b1597bba1003&spa=1>.

Please review the supplemental materials provided by Esri to guide you through this transition. Esri ... provide[s] support and resources to academics<https://www.esri.com/en-us/industries/higher-education/roles/educators/modern-gis> who have decided to integrate more modern forms of GIS into their teaching.

If you have any additional questions or need technical support, please submit a ticket<https://ucrsupport.service-now.com/ucr_portal?id=ucr_submission_form> or call ITS BearHelp at 951-827-4848.

Migrate to ArcGIS Pro<https://www.esri.com/training/catalog/5b296eb4e620ca23e65420dc/migrate-to-arcgis-pro/> is another resource available through Esri Academy. It includes a 2-day web course (free to UCR affiliates if you access it through ArcGIS Online; next course starts June 12), a free web course, and two sets of documents.

These three resources for ArcMap users, as well as several ArcGIS Pro tutorials, are available from the home page of an ArcGIS Pro session:

  *   https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/3.3/get-started/migrate-content-to-arcgis-pro.htm
  * https://www.esri.com/content/dam/esrisites/en-us/media/misc/user-type-migration-guide.pdf (also available through the Migrate to ArcGIS Pro link above)
  *   https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/3.3/get-started/migrate-to-arcgis-pro.htm
Note that access to all other Esri products, including ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online, will continue uninterrupted.
I hope this doesn't catch you off-guard, and that you have already or will soon transition to using ArcGIS Pro, QGIS<https://qgis.org/>, or another alternative<https://guides.lib.ucr.edu/c.php?g=171041&p=8392166> to ArcMap.

Best,
