[Geospatial] Fire Insurance Maps Online - now available through UCR Library

Hi everyone,

I'm very pleased and excited to announce that  among its many databases<https://guides.lib.ucr.edu/az.php>, UCR Library now provides Fire Insurance Maps Online<https://fims.historicalinfo.com/FIMS.aspx> for UCR affiliates interested in seeing historical large-scale maps created by The Sanborn Map Company and other entities.

To give you an idea of what's available, here's a sample of a Sanborn map of downtown Riverside from 1895:

Note that you can download the maps as JPGs.

The platform also provides "Real Estate Atlases, Plat Books, and other historical maps showing building structures, building construction details, property ownership, property uses, and other useful information."

UCR's access to "FIMo" is part of a UC-wide license agreement. Our subscription only includes maps in California.
