Hello,

The notification is on our website – additionally we requested it be
visible on the R Space home page and it seems that is also now active and a
more direct way to guide staff and colleagues.
https://portal.ucr.edu/uPortal/f/home-staff/normal/render.uP

In regards to the Governor’s guideline made available earlier this month,
below is a visual of the guidance to all faculty, staff, and students to
bring their own water on campus or access water refill stations as
fountains are prohibited. This is on page 9 of the guideline which I have
also attached for convenient reference.

Thank you,

Monty

I didn’t see a notice either. Can you resend it?

Hi Monty, thanks for the explanation. I figured it was something like
this, but we should have been notified by email in advance, especially
since this was done on one of the hottest days of the year.

>From a quick look at the map, most/all? the hydration stations are in
buildings, which are locked and not accessible. How are people supposed to
access potable water? If we had advance notice, we could have, at a
minimum, arranged for water delivery. Many people in the department are
doing field and greenhouse work and access to water is essential.

Good morning,

This adjustment to water fountains is part of the requirement of state
guideline for higher education – details are below and in link on our
website where we posted earlier this week.

· FACILITIES SERVICES' CAMPUS WATER FOUNTAIN GUIDANCE

Dear Colleagues,

In accordance with the recent state guidelines for higher education,
beginning this week, all 255 traditional drinking fountains on the main
campus will be unavailable for public use. Facilities Services (FS) and
Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) are partnering to bag all fountains
and will place out of order signs on each location.

UCR's 44 Hydration stations will remain available for use and can be found
by using the map, here <https://campusmap.ucr.edu/>. The stations can be
located by zooming in on the map and finding the blue water icons. Please
see the image below for an example.

Dear Monty and Susan,

I just learned that the drinking fountains in Batchelor Hall were all taken
off line today, without any notice. I’m out of town, so haven’t confirmed
this.

As you will see from the forwarded email, this has caused problems with our
employees who rely on the drinking fountains for potable water.

Can you please let me know why this decision was made and what the solution
will be for providing drinking water? Surely we are obligated to provide
employees with potable water, so how will this be achieved? Any why were
we not notified in advance?

I don’t know if this was done in other buildings, but it is particularly
important in BPSC, where many employees are working in the field or in
greenhouses.

Thanks, patty

Hi Patty,

Do you know at what level the decision was made to cover the drinking
fountains in Batchelor hall on one of the hottest days on record? I
certainly never received any announcement. Someone came around this
morning, presumably from Physical Plant, although I never saw the person,
and unplugged all the fountains and taped over the faucet so one cannot
drink. Neil Stone wanted to refill his water bottle before returning to
the greenhouse but could not do so. We have always been told not to drink
out of the faucets in the lab, so what are we supposed to use, the toilets?
I need to know to whom to address my complaint. Do you know who that might
be?
