Dear Dr. Chow-Yang Lee

The Urban Pest Management Technical Committee (UPMTC) is a non-profit
organization dedicated to furthering the field of urban pest management as
a career. UPMTC is composed of technical directors working for private pest
control companies. Many are entomologists with many years of experience in
the industry. We have begun offering an internship for students interested
in pursuing this career path. I am contacting you as a possible contact for
your university. If there is someone else I should contact, I would
appreciate you letting me know.

UPMTC members and their participating companies will be sponsoring an
internship for both undergraduate and graduate students with majors in
entomology, toxicology, or other biological sciences for the purpose of
promoting urban entomology as a career. Students will apply initially via
the UPMTC website (upmtc.org) and select a participating member. This may
be in their state, the state of the attending university, or anywhere there
is a member company. UPMTC will screen the applications and forward
promising applicants to the member company the applicant has expressed
interested in. The member company will further determine the
appropriateness of the applicant to their internship.

Each company will determine the content of their own internship. Generally
speaking, it will be a combination of field work and office learnings
through a combination of job shadowing experienced personnel and working
independently. Classroom training will also likely be a component.
Compensation and support will vary by participating company. Here in
Arizona, for example, we are looking at a robust introduction to urban
entomology. This internship will include both extensive field experience in
a variety of pest situations and classroom studies on pest groups,
toxicology, pesticide resistance, IPM, application techniques, IPM in food
production and medical facilities, and much more. These programs are meant
to stimulate interest in the industry of urban entomology. Programs
typically run 6-8 weeks, but shorter programs may be available.

outlets available to you we would be grateful.
