Summer Research Positions – Insect Ecology & Pest Management
The Daugherty Lab <https://faculty.ucr.edu/~mattd/index.html> in the Department of Entomology has openings for students interested in contributing to research on insect ecology, invasion biology, and pest management. Studies will include host-plant use and management of the glassy-winged sharpshooter (Homalodisca vitripennis) in nurseries, and the behavior and performance of the Asian citrus psyllid (Diaphorina citri) on different citrus varieties. 
 
Responsibilities include field collection of insect and plant samples, plant rearing and insect colony maintenance, greenhouse and field studies of insect behavior and population dynamics, and sample processing under the microscope to quantify insect abundance and plant damage. Prior experience with field research and insect or plant identification is desirable, but is not required. Occasional work outside of normal business hours (early mornings and weekends) may be required.
 
Students are eligible to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer, at an hourly rate of $16.50. Part-time work during the school year may also be possible.
