We are looking for candidates for a unique GRA position (MS level) that
will focus on food sovereignty for indigenous populations (see attached
advert), and relate indigenous values in agriculture to One Health. The
student must be very open to working with various cultures and a variety of
issues beyond entomology, and must also be open to learning about and
understanding indigenous worldviews of entomology, agriculture, and nature.
The work will focus on indigenous populations in Nebraska, but will have
much broader application. Interested candidates can reach out to Dr. Louise
Lynch-O’Brien (llynchobrien at unl.edu) for details.

We also would appreciate it if you could share this opportunity with your
colleagues in Horticulture departments. Thank you!

John

Good morning!

I hope this finds you well.

Kathy – Ted Hibbeler and I have been working with our business office and
the Native American Agriculture Fund to elevate a grant funded part-time
position to a GRA in our Department. I know we had chatted about getting
application materials in for November 1…but the process has taken a while
to transition and we weren’t sure it could occur. I’ve switched the
application due date to the “do or die” date – November 15th, so that
applicants have 1 month to get materials in. I hope we can identify
candidates sooner.

John – we’ll be meeting with the NAAF reps soon for a grant orientation on
November 8th. We don’t have *final* say that the grant will extend to cover
the 2 months of the GRA. Ted has communicated with them regularly and feels
confident that they will grant the extension. I did some research for plan
B regardless. In the event they do not grant an extension, it would be 2
months of a GRA. This would be about $7,000. I figure Ted and I have a year
to identify these funds should they be needed. This is just FYI.

We’d like to proceed with advertising the position. A special student will
be needed for this position…one that is open to intercultural
communication. I’m going to send this to a few faculty and advertise on the
One Health Commission’s research page. Could you share this as well?

Kathy – I’ve looked at this ad for what feels like a gazillion times. I’m
blind to any errors at this stage. If anything stands out to you, please
give me a holler and I’ll make revisions. If you don’t mind, I’ll wait
until you cast an eye on it to make sure I didn’t make any goofs.

Pilamaya,

Louise
