Dear CEDA members,

Please forward the announcement for a PhD position in systematics and
biodiversity of microcaddisflies - well funded by a NSF Career grant to
Robin Thomson.

*1 PhD position in systematics and biodiversity of microcaddisflies*

The Department of Entomology, University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, invites
applications for a PhD graduate research assistantship in systematic
entomology.

The graduate student will work under the supervision of Dr. Robin Thomson,
Curator of the University of Minnesota Insect Collection, and will
participate in an NSF funded project that explores the diversity,
phylogenetics, and biogeography of the microcaddisflies (Trichoptera:
Hydroptilidae). They will conduct independent research exploring the
evolutionary history of one of the microcaddisfly subfamilies; research
will include training in current phylogenetic analysis using both
morphological and molecular data, generic revisions and species
descriptions, fieldwork involving international travel (international
passport will be required), and museum collection curation and management.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and independent, have
research experience, a demonstrated interest in taxonomy and systematics,
and a strong academic record in evolutionary biology, entomology, or
related field. Experience in systematics, phylogenomics, or biogeography is
a plus, but not required.

Please contact me directly to express your interest (Robin Thomson,
thom1514 at umn.edu). Candidates will also need to apply to the Entomology
Department graduate program (
