[Entm-beu] Safety Updates- May 2021

Hello Entomology Dept.,

A few safety related updates for you all.

1) EHS is trialing a new informational workshop called "Laboratory Ventilation and Local Exhaust". It is an introduction to understanding ventilation on campus for the research community.

The class will be via zoom and will last approximately 1.5 hours. They will schedule this class based on the amount of interest. If you are interested, or know someone who might be, please email :  Adam.Lucas at ucr.edu or EHStraining at ucr.edu . They will schedule the workshop date/time and communicate directly with you once you request to sign-up.


2) There have been some updates to the LHAT (Laboratory Hazard Assessment) portion of the RSS (Risk and Safety Solutions ) website. They have tried to make it more user friendly. You may notice the changes the next time you login. Once your lab renews your LHAT, it will be good for 2 years now and not 1. However, if you are adding new technologies, chemicals,  identify new hazards, etc., your lab should renew their LHAT at that time as well.


3) EHS is looking to collect any excess/unused lab coats   in your lab in ANY condition. If you have lab coats lying around that are not being used and you don't want them (students left, projects ended etc.), you can donate/drop them off at EHS or request a pick-up. They will launder and reissue those that are in good shape@ ehslaboratory at ucr.edu.

4) EHS is looking for labs to volunteer to use exposure monitors for 9 chemicals (list attached below). If your lab uses any of these chemicals and would like students/techs to wear the monitors, please reach out to them directly.
