Seminar Title: " When Evolution Moves at Warp-Speed: Molecular-Drive at Centromeres”

Abstract
Centromeres are by far the fastest evolving component of the genomes of many species, including humans: yet there is little evidence that they have evolved to do anything new. What makes these structures evolve so fast? I will construct and analyze a symbolic representation of the centromeric sequences of all human chromosomes to show how an unconventional form of evolution called ‘molecular-drive' is responsible for this rapid evolution.
