On 6 January 2011, a series of panels and workshops at the MLA Annual Convention in Los Angeles will focus on the theme The Academy in Hard Times. Sponsored sessions and forums will offer attendees insights on the situation and strategies for effective action. To download a free informational brochure about The Academy in Hard Times, please visit the MLA Web site at www.mla.org/pdf/acadhardtimesweb.pdf.

The MLA is offering a free one-day pass to community college and contingent faculty members to attend these sessions on 6 January. To receive a pass, present a copy of this message at the convention registration area at the Concourse Foyer in the West Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center on 6 January. The registration area opens at 8:00 a.m. Those applying for a pass will be asked to complete a brief survey and must present a valid institutional ID.
