LECTURER REPRESENTATIVE NOMINATION
Job Description:
Lecturer Representative has traditionally been a
two-year term, and we have tried to stagger the
voting procedure so that only one representative
position of the two is open each year. This year
Julie Brett's position is open.
As you know, the primary duties for this position
include working as a liaison between lecturers and
administration, meeting with the Writing Program
Committee of the University Writing Program to
assist in programmatic decision making, visiting and
observing classes, assisting in the preparation of
post-six personnel files, writing overall
evaluations for personnel files, evaluating
personnel files for both quarterly and continuing
appointments, and (now) assisting in the WASC review
process.
Representatives also poll fellow lecturers, discuss
potential problematic issues in the relationship
between administration and lecturers, and attempt to
ameliorate and solve problems with the Director of
the UWP.
Because of the hard work (and potential grievance)
of Sandy Barringer, Julie Brett, Ben Harder,
Stephanie Kay, Linda Strahan, and Keith Vance, the
two lecturer rep positions (as of this year) now
have a stipend equivalent to ½ a course release.
This was an important victory for the recognition of
labor.
Please email me (Keith Vance----at lashv at ucr.edu)
any nominations you may have for this position by
Friday, June 5th at 5:00 PM.
Voting Procedure:
Once I have the nominations, I will type up a ballot
and put it in your mailbox on Monday, June 8th.
Just circle one name and turn it in to Cheryl
Bruseualas right after your final. It’s as easy
as that.
Best,
Keith
