 CalPERS Long-Term Care Program

Why Plan Ahead for Long-Term Care?
Most people learn about long-term care the hard way--when they or a loved
one need care. Planning ahead gives individuals time to talk with their
family about preferences, to find out about care options, and to give some
thought to the types of services they would want. Additionally, planning
ahead helps you determine how you will pay for care--which can be very
costly in a way that does not deplete your financial resources.

Retirement planning is an important part of protecting tomorrow. Although
most people plan for the future through 403(b) plans, savings accounts or
investment portfolios, they overlook long-term care coverage. A long-term
care program should be a part of your financial plan. The younger you are
when you apply, the lower the cost will be. A secure financial future means
peace of mind and "Peace of Mind Begins with a Plan."The 2008 CalPERS
Long-Term Care Application period begins April 1, 2008 and ends June 30,
2008.

California public employees, including UC employees, retirees, school
teachers and their adult siblings, spouses, parents and parents-in-law are
eligible to enroll in this plan. All applicants must be between the ages of
18-79. There are many Long-Term Care plans available from other carriers and
it is recommended that you compare plans to make sure you enroll in one that
bests meets your needs.
