University of California Institute Seeks Research Director for "Don't Ask,
Don't Tell" Project

The Michael D. Palm Center, formerly the Center for the Study of Sexual
Minorities in the Military, is accepting applications for Research Director
for its "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" project.

Responsibilities include conducting academic and policy-oriented research on
various aspects of sexuality and gender in the military, especially those
issues related to policies concerning gays, lesbians, bisexuals and
transgender members of the U.S. armed forces.  In addition, the Research
Director will coordinate research activities of the Center's affiliated
scholars, including conceiving of new studies, identifying authors who can
complete them, and working with scholars throughout the design, research,
writing, editing and publication phases.  The ideal candidate will
telecommute from anywhere in the country.

Candidates should have completed a Ph.D. in the social sciences or
humanities and should demonstrate a high degree of professionalism as well
as outstanding administrative and writing skills. The position requires a
capacity for interdisciplinary research and the ability to work comfortably
in the social sciences and humanities.

The Center is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the
diversity and excellence of the academic community through research and
service.

Compensation will be between $50K and $65K per year, depending on
experience, and will include a generous benefits package.  Interested
candidates should submit a cover letter highlighting relevant experience, a
CV, and a list of at least three references to Lisa Lusero, Assistant
Director, at llusero10 at law.du.edu.  Through the end of October and into
November the Center will be in the process of changing its name and webpage.
